Westmoreland County Food Bank to Announce Launch of Fresh Milk Program
WESTMORELAND COUNTY FOOD BANK TO ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF FRESH MILK PROGRAM
WHAT
Milk is one of the most requested items at food banks, yet it is rarely donated. As such, hungry families are missing out on the essential nutrients milk provides. That is changing in Westmoreland County and throughout Pennsylvania through Fill a Glass with Hope®, an innovative program focused on providing fresh milk to families in need.
Join the Westmoreland County Food Bank on April 14, 2016, as it formally launches its fresh milk program. Kris M. Douglas, chief executive officer of the Westmoreland County Food Bank, will provide an overview of a pilot program expected to provide more than 12,000 servings of milk this year through the St. Margaret Mary Food Pantry in Lower Burrell. Guest speakers will include Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, Feeding Pennsylvania Executive Director Jane Clements-Smith, and Larry and Rosalie Kupec, coordinators at St. Margaret Mary Food Pantry. Also speaking will be Chuck Turner, president of Turner Dairy Farms, which is supplying milk for the food bank’s fresh milk program, and Harold Shaulis, chairman of the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program.
Fill a Glass with Hope®, the first statewide charitable fresh milk program, is a collaborative partnership among Feeding Pennsylvania, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program and Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association. Pennsylvania’s dairy industry is committed to providing fresh milk to families in need through Feeding Pennsylvania’s network of eight food banks, which serves more than 2 million people annually.
