What We Do
The Westmoreland County Food Bank is a multi-service food and nutrition service agency that provides a plethora of programs to assist individuals and families who are food insecure throughout Westmoreland County.
• In addition to the Food Pantry Distribution program, which encompasses our core function to acquire food to distribute to those in need, we also operate the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), a federally funded program for residents 60 years of age and older.
• The Summer Food Service Program has been in operation in Westmoreland County since we opened our doors in 1982 and provides meals to children throughout the summer months.
• Our Operation Fresh Express Program (OFE), has been replicated throughout the country, and provides mainly fresh produce and perishable items at an additional distribution throughout the county on a weekly basis.
• The newest project of the Food Bank is the Super Cupboard Program which is designed to education frequent users of food services using a combination of food assistance, nutrition education, and food preparation, as well as basic living skills. Finally, the Outreach & Expansion Project began in 2007 and provides a concentrated effort on different areas of the county to provide resources to the underserved and focuses on finding new food, funds, and friends.
