INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

Intern (1)It is well-known that the Westmoreland County Food Bank is a very volunteer-driven organization.  We rely on volunteers to run our monthly food pantries, to help distribute food at Operation Fresh Express, to help pack Senior Food Program boxes and many other assorted things.

What may not be as well-known is that WCFB also accepts interns from Colleges and Universities to help fulfill community involvement credits.

The Westmoreland County Food Bank does not pay individuals for internships.  In accordance with Federal law and the United States Department of Agriculture policy, Westmoreland County Food Bank and its member agencies do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.


The following internships are available:

Basic Internship
(as needed)

Information:  Interns should have an interest in human services, social work and/or marketing.  Positions are available on an “as needed” basis.  Positions are voluntary, but, in some cases, mileage is reimbursed.  Positions can be long or short term.

Summer Food Service Program Internship
(Summers Only)

Information:   The Summer Food Service Program for Children is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered at the State level by a State agency. The Department of Education administers the program in Pennsylvania and reimburses sponsors (such as private nonprofits) for meals served at approved feeding sites in low-income areas to children 18 years and under.   WCFB is seeking an individual with an interest or major in human services to assist the Resource and Programs Director with the planning and administration of this program.

Requirements:

  • Individual must be computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Individual must have their own transportation along with a valid PA driver’s license.

Specifications:

    • Assist with program planning which includes the determination of returning sites and development of new sites.
    • Assist with planning the mandatory training session for the Site Supervisors.
    • Receive training information on the proper administrative responsibilities involved in the areas of monitoring, record keeping, reviews and evaluations for each site to be able to provide assistance in each area.
    • Work with the food service provider to provide daily meal counts and make adjustments to the food orders for each site.
    • Visit Summer Food Service Program sites throughout Westmoreland County to complete the mandatory reviews and moitoring.  Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
