Once a year Lorraine is responsible for ensuring that all participants certify as a recipient of the program and completes all of the necessary paperwork per federal program guidelines. She also assists with the paperwork for anyone that wishes to be added to the program once they move into the building. Most importantly, she makes sure that all eligible participants receive their box once a month. Lorraine takes her job very seriously and handles these responsibilities with minimal assistance

  1. How have you been affected by hunger?

My income is low, I do receive food stamps but the amount is not very much. When I go to the grocery store I see the prices for food and necessities. I am very grateful that I am able to get some items at the pantry that I am not able to purchase at the store due to the high cost.

  1. How has the Westmoreland County Food Bank impacted your life?

The Food Bank has helped me out a lot. I appreciate that I get a choice of items that I want. They are very nice to me at the pantry where I do go every month. I also receive the senior box at the high rise that I live in. I like to help out because I feel that I am helping those people that may not be able to get out to a pantry and they can receive the senior box by coming downstairs to get one. I just celebrated another birthday and I will continue to help out as long as I can.

  1. What would you tell someone who may be thinking about donating to the Food Bank?

If you are able to afford to give, even if it’s a few dollars it helps. If you cannot give have it in your heart and pray for those in need.
