Leonard Jendrey, March 2018

Leonard Jendrey of Lower Burrell is better known as “DA CHICKEN MAN”!  Lenny has been a volunteer for over five years.  During his time as a volunteer at St. Margaret Mary Pantry, he has contributed in many ways, but his most outstanding work and recognition is for dressing up in his dynamic chicken apron and giving such tender loving care to his ten pound “CHICKEN LEG QUARTERS FLOCK.” With his synthetic nitrile protective gloves, that provide a better grip, preventing the birds from hitting the concrete, while handling those cold and frozen slippery birds, Lenny has captured the admiration of, perhaps our somewhat jealous, fellow volunteers.  Initially, the newest volunteer who would show up for the first time, was given the responsibility of “MINDING THE FLOCK”.  This was our initiation to see if that new volunteer could handle the birds and would “MAKE THE CUT” as one of us!  And hopefully return for the next month.  Not to be denied, Lenny fought off all newcomers and secured the lofty position as the “ROOSTER” of “OUR FLOCK”. All kidding aside, the WCFB staff can appreciate the efforts of Lenny.  He is a faithful volunteer along with his lovely wife Bridgett.  They have both served us well throughout and are wonderful people who epitomize what a volunteer should be.  “Based on these facts, Lenny deserves to be recognized as March Volunteer of the Month for his ‘THREE YEAR REIGN OF CHICKEN’”, says, Larry Kupec, St. Margaret Mary Food Pantry Coordinator.
