How have you been affected by hunger?
There was a time in my life when I had to choose between whether to put gas in my car or purchase food. I went to my local food bank for help because my husband was unable to work due to a disability and I was working a part-time job.
How has the Westmoreland County Food Bank impacted your life?
I think that it’s wonderful what they (the Westmoreland County Food Bank) are doing. When I used to go to the food bank in my local area, they often provided food that my family would not eat. Today, with such efforts as donated food and campaigns like Fight Hunger. Spark Change. food banks are able to provide a better selection of canned goods and cereals – food that my family would eat and this is great!
What would you tell someone who may be thinking about donating to the Food Bank?
I think that what the Food Bank does is wonderful. I was never eligible for food stamps because my husband received disability benefits. However, we did not make enough money and needed help for food. The aid provided by the food bank is very much needed for people who do not qualify for other assistance and that is why supporting them is important.
