Westmoreland County Food Bank recognizes Helen Gara as the June 2019 Volunteer of the Month.  She has been a pantry volunteer for the past five years at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church food pantry in West Newton. The leadership there cannot recall her ever missing a distribution. At 92 years of age, she loves volunteering for the food pantry and has often inspired the women of her church to donate monetarily for the ministry to purchase items the Westmoreland County Food Bank does not provide as well as much needed items such as toiletries. At 92, the challenges that she has overcome are the fact that she needs a cane for balance but insists on standing at a table for the duration of the food pantry as well as cleaning the tables before she leaves for the day. Helen interacts so well with the clients and always has a smile on her face and an uplifting word for everyone. She is an asset to the pantry and her fellow volunteers love her and look forward to seeing her each month on pantry day. Congratulations Helen!
