Deb McDermott
WCFB Recipient
Deb McDermott receives assistance from the Westmoreland County Food Bank, including attending the Operation Fresh Express which delivers fresh produce and close-dated items to food insecure persons in need.
How have you been affected by hunger?
Deb is unable to work due to a disability and has a caregiver that assists her for specific needs. She receives SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly referred to as food stamps), but the benefits do not provide her sufficient food the entire month. In addition to the monthly Food Pantry Distribution Program, Deb has also participated in the Operation Fresh Express mobile pantry to receive fresh produce and similar items. The food that Deb receives from WCFB supplements her SNAP benefits to ensure she does not go hungry each month.
How has the Westmoreland County Food Bank impacted your life?
Deb shared that the aid she receives from WCFB helps tremendously and that she could not get by without going to the food pantry or Operation Fresh Express. In addition, Deb commented on the friendly and caring people that she always encounters when attending these food distributions, “They are nice when you need help and answer all of my questions.”
What would you tell someone who may be thinking about donating to the Food Bank?
“Sometimes money runs out, especially during the holidays, which makes the aid from WCFB so important. By donating to WCFB, you are helping people like me who turn to the Food Bank,” shared Deb in response to anyone that might consider making a donation.
