Turkey Cup Challenge Participants
2016 marks the 10th Annual Turkey Cup fundraiser for the Westmoreland County Food Bank (WCFB). The event enlists the support of Westmoreland County schools that compete against each other for the coveted Turkey Cup trophy all while raising much-needed funds for the Food Bank. Last year, this event garnered over $37,000 for WCFB. This year, the Food Bank projects the challenge will surpass last year’s total since eight schools are participating. Mt. Pleasant Junior Senior High School has taken part each year in the challenge and has placed second or third. As a loyal supporter of the Westmoreland County Food Bank, they are hoping to finally secure the Turkey Cup!
How have you been affected by hunger?
Hunger can affect almost anyone, including fellow students, parents, or grandparents. Unfortunately, due to hunger, students may not do well in school or be able to participate in the same activities as their friends.
How has the Westmoreland County Food Bank impacted your life?
The Westmoreland County Food Bank has impacted several of the students’ lives helping them and their families to put food on the table during tough times. Students are very appreciative of the work that the Food Bank does in order to provide meals and food to this in need. In turn, students and families are happier and more successful at school or work.
What would you tell someone who may be thinking about donating to the Food Bank?
Students are eager and encouraged all people to donate, either food or money, in order to help those in the community who might be in need. The students could see the importance of the Food Bank and the service it provides to their families and neighbors, and resoundingly asked others to chip in and donate or volunteer to this great organization.
